Hello, my name is Frank Kawasaki, the teacher of the Chinese brush painting class. Born and raised in Tacoma, I was exposed to calligraphy at an early age. But for a long time, my interest was more into baseball or just hanging out with friends. Well, calligraphy stays with me and has had a tremendous impact on my learning the art of brush painting even going back 60 years in my life. Being spontaneous and honoring nature are my inspiration to what I do. Since I do not depend on income from my paintings, I paint what I feel, especially going back to the ancient masters and the incredible works they created. What I try to do at the Evergreen Chinese Academy is to provide an atmosphere of do-able artwork in the short time of a lesson, whether 30 minutes or an hour. I also want to show different techniques so that in their spare time or at a later time in life…students will be able to create meaningful artwork that they can be proud to display. If you would like to visit one of my classes, please do so. You can “sit in” on one of my classes on most Saturdays if your time permits. Believe me, it is nothing but fun!
